AJM Holds Meeting with Journalists and Media Workers from the Polog Region
Access to information, communication with local institutions, the safety of journalists, working conditions, and the long-standing status of correspondents were among the main topics discussed at a meeting between the Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) and journalists and media workers from the Polog Regional Centre in Tetovo.
AJM President Mladen Chadikovski, together with representatives of the AJM office, discussed with the participants the specific challenges journalists face in the region, as well as the ways in which AJM can provide support in addressing these issues.
Particular attention was paid to recent incidents reported by some AJM members in the region and to the response of the competent institutions in these cases. The journalists shared their experiences and stressed the need for institutions to respond more seriously and promptly to cases involving pressure, threats, or other forms of obstruction of their work.
The meeting also addressed the status of correspondents, who continue to work under specific conditions, often without a sufficiently clear professional and employment status and with limited support from their respective newsrooms. In this context, the importance of ensuring that journalists working in the regions have direct communication with AJM and can promptly seek advice, legal assistance, or other forms of professional support was emphasized.
AJM President Mladen Chadikovski stressed that direct communication with members is essential for identifying local challenges in a timely manner and determining the specific areas in which the Association can provide support.
Such meetings are part of AJM’s regular efforts to strengthen the involvement of journalists and media workers outside Skopje, gain a better understanding of the challenges they face at the local level, and identify issues on which AJM can provide support. Similar activities and meetings with journalists will be held in the remaining five AJM Regional Centres in the coming weeks.
