    • Date December 13, 2024

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM), in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a three-day workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence in Newsrooms – North Macedonia’s Pursuit of Balance Between Progress, Innovation, and Security.” The event took place from December 11th to 13th, 2024, in Krusevo.

The workshop was opened by Dragan Sekulovski, Executive Director of AJM, and Daniel Brown, the official representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, who emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving journalistic practices in the digital era. The event gathered journalists, media professionals, and experts to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can be integrated into newsrooms while preserving ethical standards and journalists’ security.

The program featured interactive sessions and practical exercises led by Boris Ristovski, Martin Petrovski, and Suad Seferi. Participants explored key concepts of media literacy, identified misinformation and manipulative content, and used AI tools for fact-checking and content creation. The legal aspects and ethical standards of AI usage were also discussed.

Lindita Koka, a participant in the training, shared her impressions, stating that the workshop provided an excellent opportunity to deepen knowledge about AI integration in newsrooms.
“Techniques for organizing and analyzing data, along with content visualization tools, helped me understand new trends and adapt them to my team’s needs. AI is not just the future—it is already here, and this training has helped us prepare for its challenges and opportunities.”

On the second day, discussions focused on legal aspects and cybersecurity, covering protection techniques against digital attacks, decentralized technologies such as Web3, and transparency in AI usage. This session offered new perspectives for media professionals and highlighted the need to adapt ethical standards to new digital circumstances.

Bojana Spasovska, another participant, shared her insights, emphasizing that learning to use AI tools was a revelation for her.
“I learned how to effectively use tools like ChatGPT for quickly generating ideas and analyzing information, which significantly eases my daily work.”

The final day was dedicated to practical exercises, where participants used AI tools such as ChatGPT and MidJourney to analyze databases and create original visual and textual content. Working on real-world scenarios allowed them to apply their newly acquired skills and gain practical insight into the advantages of digital technologies.

Through this workshop, AJM and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the capacities of journalists and media professionals in North Macedonia. This initiative aims to promote responsible and innovative journalism, ensuring accurate, ethical, and secure information for the public, thereby contributing to the advancement of the media sector and democratic society.
