Last weekend, an educational meeting was held in Ohrid between sports journalists from several sports media in the country. The initiator of this meeting was the Section of Sports Journalists at AJM, which within its activities for this year plans several more meetings between representatives of sports federations in the country.
The main goal of such meetings between journalists is to try to make positive changes in the guild by detecting the problems in sports journalism, with active participation by offering reasoned solutions. At the meeting in Ohrid, the president of AJM Mladen Chadikovski, and the coordinator of the section of sports journalists at AJM, Pero Momirovski, gave welcoming addresses to those present.
In his address, President Chadikovski greeted his fellow sports journalists and emphasized that “the problems and challenges faced by journalists in Macedonia are similar, regardless of whether they are sports journalists or journalists covering other topics.” The work of this section contributes to determining and looking for ways to overcome the professional challenges faced by people from this sector, who are considered strong professionals. It is necessary to continue the solidarity approach and togetherness in the work of journalists as a prerequisite for the growth of this Section in domestic and international frameworks”
The coordinator of the section of sports journalists, Pero Momirovski, shared his satisfaction with the response to this meeting, from which the members of the section can only benefit. “This is the place where we sports journalists in the country can share our problems, arguments, and thoughts on how to improve cooperation, but also offer solutions to overcome the bad conditions in the field” – said Momirovski
In the working part of the workshop, Milorad Stojmanovski had his presentations and spoke about the challenges and new trends in sports journalism. Tamara Grncharoska from the Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM ) focused her presentation on joint action to protect the labor rights of sports journalists, while in the last part of the sessions Vladko Arsov presented himself through an interactive simulation and detection of challenges in sports journalism. One of the most important topics discussed at the workshop was security in journalism, which is still a challenge in every area of journalism.
The activities of the Section of Sports Journalists at АЈМ do not stop here, they are followed by meetings with other colleagues across the country to hear in one place their challenges and proposals for improving cooperation and improving working conditions.
Within the framework of the event, representatives from the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) were also invited, where they had a presentation on labor rights.
The event is organized within the regional project “Trade Unions for a Fair Recovery” (01.01.2022-30.04.2023), financed by the European Union through the European Confederation of Trade Unions and the European Federation of Journalists, with the Agreement on grant number VS/2021/0214
