Improving the safety of journalists through amendments to the Criminal Code – analysis of international standards and domestic regulations

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) prepared a publication entitled “Improving the safety of journalists by amending the Criminal Code – analysis of international standards and domestic regulations.”
The purpose of the analysis is to assist journalists and media workers, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and the Ministry of Justice in implementing international standards to protect journalists in the Criminal Code (CC).
The analysis continues AJM’s efforts to raise public awareness of issues related to journalists’ safety and the potential damage from the established practice of impunity for committers of acts directed against journalists and media workers. Authors of the publication are Kostadin Bogdanov, Ivan Breshkovski, Dragan Sekulovski.
The analysis highlights the importance of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) of the Republic of North Macedonia in strengthening the security of journalists and media workers through given comment on actions taken by the prosecution, or in the cases when acting on a reported crime or when the Misdemeanour Commissions at the Ministry of Interior acts upon a reported misdemeanour.
The publication can be downloaded for free in Macedonian and Albanian at the following links:
