Condemnation for the physical attack on the TV24 cameraman Ivan Kamchev

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia – AJM strongly condemns the verbal and physical attack on TV 24 cameraman Ivan Kamchev, during which the attacker damaged the equipment.
Colleague Kamchev, while returning from today’s filming with a colleague from MRTV, witnessed a traffic accident on the Gradsko-Prilep road near the municipality of Rosoman. In an attempt to document the event, cameraman Kamchev was verbally and then physically attacked, during which his equipment was damaged.
In a telephone conversation immediately after the unfortunate event, colleague Kamchev reported the case to AJM and stated: “I just started recording inserts, the person approached me and started calling traitor journalists, you are only asking for some rights and addressed us with insulting words. He swung at me several times and once managed to hit the stand and damaged the camera.”
The case was reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, SVR Veles, from where we have information that immediately after the report, measures were taken to clear up the case.
AJM will follow the investigation and will insist on responsibility on the part of the person who physically attacked cameraman Kamchev and prevented him from physically performing his professional work.
We remind you that an attack on a media worker while performing professional tasks is a criminal offense where the Ministry of the Interior and the PPO have an obligation to act in their official capacity.
We ask the Ministry of the Interior and the Public Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a quick and efficient investigation in the interest of finding and punishing the attacker.
