As part of efforts to protect and promote professional journalism, the Council for Media Ethics of Macedonia (CMEM), in cooperation with the Association of Journalists of Macedonia, informs that the process of renewing and updating the membership of the online media in the self-regulatory body is ongoing. The procedure is conducted according to the standards agreed between CMEM and AJM following the examples in developed democratic societies and the Council of Europe, who always consult with the journalistic and media community and are available at: https://www.semm.mk/ chlenstvo / pravila-za-chlenstvo.
The process will result with creation of a professional online media register that will help the public to easily identify which media meets the criteria and adhere to ethical reporting standards in their work. The results for the Register will be announced during November this year.
Media self-regulation continues to be a common commitment of our organizations to voluntarily establish standards and adhere to them within a process that is open to the public. In this process, except for the media community, business community will be involved as well. The Economic Chamber of Macedonia joined the CMEM and AJM initiative to promote self-regulation in online media, and the purpose of this collaboration is through the creation of the Registry to facilitate access to business community advertising in professional online media as opposed to those who do not meet membership criteria and regularly violate ethical standards.
