Annual AJM journalism awards – 2023

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia held the annual AJM awards event. At the event, the three main awards were given – “Krste Petkov Misirkov” for lifetime achievement, the “Jashar Erebara” award for investigative journalism and an award for journalistic reporting on topics of local and regional importance, but four recognitions and one plaque for special contribution were also given for the promotion of professional investigative journalism.
In addition to the regular awards, the Awards Committee, composed of Sonja Kolevska Delevska, Srećko Popovski and Riad Murati, decided that the lifetime achievement award to be given to Dragan Gjorgovski, the “Jashar Erebara” award for investigative journalism was given to Investigative Reporting Laboratory (IRL), while the award for journalistic reporting on topics of local and regional importance left in the hands of Adnan Qaili.
The winners of this year’s AJM awards thanked for the awards by announcing that they will not stop here, they will continue to create and tell stories valuable to the public.
The members of the Commission decided to award one plaque for special contribution to professional journalism for reporting about the war in Ukraine to Kristina Atovska and four more recognitions for special contribution to professional investigative journalism to Frosina Dimevska, Martin Pushevski, Petar Klincharski, Irena Mulachka.
In his addressing, the President of AJM Mladen Chadikovski said that this year there were many applicants who reported really high-quality stories in each category:
“Every year we have a growing number of registered candidates for the awards, which makes me especially happy because it is an indication that there are still many more stories waiting to be published and told.” It is a big responsibility to inform the citizens, and even bigger to be in their service. We have many media that are not always in solidarity with each other, but that does not mean that we journalists and media workers should follow that example. If the media is divided, journalists should be united” – said Chadikovski.
This year, there were a total of 42 applications, of which 18 applications were for the award for journalistic research on topics of local and regional importance, 17 for the “Jashar Erebara” award for investigative journalism, and 7 applications for the award for life’s work.
The Association of Journalists of Macedonia expresses great gratitude to all interested journalists for this year’s competition.
