AJM reacts to the attitude of MES officials towards the journalist Qerimi

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) reacts to the attitude of a government official towards journalist Arbana Qerimi from TV Klan during today’s press conference at the Ministry of Education and Science.

During today’s press conference, organized by the Minister of Education and Science, Jeton Shaqiri, the female journalist Qerimi was verbally humiliated by an advisor for educational policies in the Ministry of Education and Science.

AJM contacted TV Klan journalist Arbana Qerimi where over the phone she said: “On a specific journalistic question whether the Minister of Education Jeton Shaqiri feels guilty for the lack of books and the errors in the textbooks, he answered that he does not feel guilty, because it is coordinated by the National Council in the Government. Then, in an extremely unprofessional way, the adviser told me that I had asked tendentious questions to take the minister out of context…” said Qerimi.

When the press conference ended, other journalists also reacted to such an attitude towards the journalist, who pointed out to the advisor that there were no tendentious questions and that all journalistic questions asked were legitimate.

ZNM asks the Ministry of Education and Science to apologize for the incident and to conduct an internal procedure to investigate the responsibility in this situation, with the aim of not repeating this or similar behavior in the future.
