AJM: Milikije Halimi condemns the attack on TV21 and calls for sanctions

After today’s condemnation of the Association of Journalists of Macedonia and the request to all institutions the incident to be investigated immediately, the mayor of Arachinovo Milikije Halimi wrote a letter to AJM. In the letter she joined the condemnation and required fast investigation of the attack.

“I strongly condemn the act that happened in the premises of the municipality. As the first person of the local self-government, I personally will do my best such events to never repeat in future. Freedom of speech, public information and the free work of the media are inviolable values and I firmly stand behind those values which are also guaranteed in the Macedonian constitution. I expect and I call on the competent institutions to investigate this case in the shortest possible time and to punish the attackers accordingly”, says Halimi in the letter sent to the AJM.

AJM previously said that such violent and primitive behavior towards our colleagues from TV21 was unacceptable and it represents an attack on the freedom of information and it’s a classical case of interference in the performance of journalists’ work.

AJM welcomes the prompt reaction of Mayor Milikije Halimi and at the same time demands urgent and efficient investigation by the Ministry of Interior.
