AJM condemns the Government’s selective approach to media accreditation
The Association of Journalists of Macedonia strongly condemns the Government’s selective approach to accrediting certain media to cover the event that will mark the 151st anniversary of the birth of the Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delchev.
Late this afternoon, part of the Macedonian media received a negative response regarding their request for accreditation of this event, without any additional explanation, even though the applications were submitted within the required deadline.
After today’s bans on access to the location where the commemoration of this important date will be held, AJM is reacting today for the second time to a situation in which journalists are prevented from doing their work professionally, which in turn carries the risk of insufficient information to the public.
We remind you that journalists and media workers have the right to be present at an event of public interest because it is part of their work, just like all other public officials who will be part of the event.
Tonight AJM also sent a letter to the Government of RNM in which it asks for an explanation and at the same time to change the decision to accredit the specific media so that they can broadcast the event tomorrow.
