AJM condemns the attack on the journalists of NOVA TV

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia condemns the attack that took place in Skopje, against the journalist team of NOVA TV. The attack was done by a supporter of the civil initiative for gathering signatures against building refugee camps in Macedonia.

The attack of the journalists of NOVA TV, represents a direct attack against the freedom of speech and the right of the citizens to be informed.

We urge the opposition to call its’ members and supporters to stop with the attacks against journalists because this kind of policy is fatal.

We are encouraged by the fast reaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which immediately identified the attacker, call him on questioning and announced criminal charges for violence against the attacker.

Building an effective system for punishing any kind of violence against journalists is the best prevention to avoid similar incidents in the future.
