AJM Condemns Attack on TV Globi Journalists and Calls for Immediate Investigation by the Ministry of Interior

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) strongly condemns the verbal attack, threats, and attempted seizure of the camera belonging to journalist Blerim Mustafa from TV Globi – Gostivar, while he was carrying out his professional journalistic duties while reporting on an event of public interest.
According to information provided to AJM, the incident occurred on 19 July in Gostivar, when an individual identified as A.L., an employee of the Gostivar Theatre, verbally attacked the journalist, issued threats against him, and attempted to seize his camera. The case was reported to the Gostivar Police Department, and video footage of the incident was also submitted to the competent authorities as material evidence.
AJM reminds that any attack, threat, or pressure against journalists constitutes a direct attack on media freedom and the public’s right to be informed in a timely and objective manner.
Journalists must be able to carry out their professional work freely and safely, without fear of intimidation or violence.
We call on the Ministry of Interior to immediately act upon the report, fully establish all the circumstances of the case, and take appropriate legal measures against the responsible person.
AJM will continue to closely monitor developments in this case and will remain in regular communication with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Interior, with the aim of ensuring an effective investigation and an appropriate criminal-legal resolution, in accordance with the legal provisions protecting journalists.
