AJM CAMPAIGN: JOURNALISTICS LITERATURE GUIDE

Digitalization and the pandemic contribute to re-examining the confidentiality of information transmitted through the media. In such sensitive moments, the professionalism of journalists is key factor in providing timely and truthful information to the public. Due to these reasons AJM is launching video campaign in order once again to emphasize the ethical and professional standards of the Code of Ethics for Journalists.

The campaign covers all articles of the code. The idea of AJM through this campaign is to emphasize that professional journalistic standards must be key guide in identifying ethical journalism as public good.

Journalists must be aware of their role in society, to recognize and to respect the responsibility in transmitting news to the public. The transmission of information is important due to the effect it has on people and social processes.

The main task of journalists is to respect the truth and the right of the public to be informed in accordance with Article 16 of our Constitution. Freedom of the media is inalienable right, journalists have role to convey information, ideas and opinions, and the right to comment, respecting ethical values and professional standards in conveying information, striving to be honest, objective and accurate.

Preventing censorship and distortion of the news is the right and duty of journalists.

Following their role in building democracy and civil society, journalists should defend human rights, dignity and freedom, respect the pluralism of ideas and attitudes, and contribute to strengthening the rule of law and control of government and other public life entities. Journalists must recognize the red lines of the public interest, without violating personal freedoms and rights.

In order to promote and strengthen the professional standards of journalists, the Association of Journalists of Macedonia is launching campaign through short videos to promote all articles of the Code of Ethics for Journalists.

All videos were made with the support of the Media Programme South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
