AJM and UNDP: Training for journalists on “Advancing Environmental Justice in North Macedonia – Strengthening Public Awareness of Problems and Possible Solutions”

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), within the framework of the project “Advancing Environmental Justice in North Macedonia,” held a training for journalists on November 7 and 8 in Skopje.
During the training, participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills on topics related to air pollution and the role of journalists in the fight for cleaner air, as well as contaminated areas and how to create investigative stories about them. The trainers were experienced colleagues and experts in their field.

Journalist Bojan Sashevski spoke about databases and useful tools for environmental journalism reporting, journalism through local mechanisms and eco-initiatives, the application of professional and ethical environmental journalism, as well as tools for multimedia storytelling.
Bojan Trpevski, a lawyer, focused on basic terms and processes for environmental protection, the responsibilities of local self-government, and access to justice in the field of environment.
Participants had the opportunity to share their own views, challenges, and experiences in monitoring and reporting on topics of local importance related to the impact of air pollution through interactive discussion. At the end, they divided into four groups to develop stories related to the training topic.
This workshop was organized by the Association of Journalists of Macedonia within the project “Advancing Environmental Justice in North Macedonia” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project is supported by UNDP’s Global Programme for Strengthening the Rule of Law, Human Rights, Justice and Security for Sustainable Peace and Development.
