AJM and SSNM: Attacks on journalists to be treated as attacks on officials

The President of the Association of Journalists of Macedonia, Mladen Chadikovski, together with representatives of the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM), met today with the Minister of Justice, Renata Deskoska.

At the meeting it was discussed about amending the Criminal Code in order to provide greater protection for journalists and media workers, as well as introducing higher and more severe punishments for the attackers.

Chadikovski said that journalists must receive greater protection from institutions while performing their professional duties, such as the institutional protection of officials.

The purpose of these amendments to the Criminal Code is to establish a more effective system of protection for journalists, which will contribute to less attacks on journalists and media workers in the future.
